Hand limits and 3D fingertip contact

Open the shooting range — final hands, tracked head and gun

Start the camera to test one or both hands live. Based on #265: Sweep depth, 2D finger directions, joint limits and contact, with adjustable jitter filtering. 2D fitting follows the direction of each tracked line on screen; fixed bone lengths and estimated depth form the 3D fingers. First-person is an eye-side inspection view, not calibrated to your actual eyes.

Fingers together and crossing

Follow the observed gaps between fingers as well as their directions. Fingers can move inward and cross when tracking detects it. Knuckles stay attached and bone lengths stay fixed. The together option closes gaps between the narrower model shells for nearby parallel fingers; it does not force crossed fingers apart. For a detected crossing, bent upper joints no longer lock the base sideways. The separate crossing limit applies while the base is nearly straight; normal fist limits still apply. Overlapping fingers can be difficult for the camera tracker to distinguish.

Reduce tracking jitter

Each finger segment ignores tiny changes independently. Slow movement accumulates until it leaves the dead zone; larger movements respond faster. Larger values also hide small intentional movements. Final limits and contact remain enforced. Turn off finger spacing as well to restore the previous #265 movement.

Starting limits are adjustable approximations, not a measurement of your joints. Sideways freedom narrows as fingers curl. The existing 40° backward ceiling remains underneath.

Fingertip contact — actual 3D solve

Pixels refer to an image 1280 pixels high. Release is never below connect. Image overlap is only a trigger; the readout reports the final 3D tip gap. Limits take priority if contact is unreachable.

Each view shows both hands when detected, with independent tracking and contact state. Wrist position is centred for inspecting finger poses. Top left: source. Top right: first person. Bottom left: side. Bottom right: camera-facing model. Changing settings resets the contact latch; move your fingertips together and apart to test connection and release.

Human joint ranges vary with the person and wrist position; these are adjustable starting limits. Study of finger MCP motion · Study of thumb MCP variability.
